Update Account Structure from Excel format using Add Ins- Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations



One of the improvement (or new feature) Microsoft made is the ability to export (and update) account structure. This can be done using office add-ins.
This feature will be a big help for the users to be able to dump the data, perform analysis, and make changes directly in Excel format.
Below are the steps to download and update account structure.


Go to /General ledger/Chart of accounts/Structures/Configure account structures/


Click on “Open in Microsoft Office” icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen and choose “Account structure allowed values” template. Other template is to extract the list of the account structure available in the system not the value combination.

The account structure value combinations will be exported into excel format as follow (after successfully login to add-ins):


If the account structure is in the draft mode, the records in Excel will be displayed in two different categories, active records and draft records. If you want to make changes the account combinations go to the record that has draft status.


Once changes are made, hit the publish button to reflect the changes. To ensure the changes have been replicated correctly, you can go and check on the account structure form or hit refresh button in excel add-ins to see the current records values.



If it happened you made changes in the active records values, add-ins will be smart enough to know that basically the draft record that should changed. It will automatically help you to update the value in the corresponding draft records. Give it a try!
